Chronic Pain for Massage Therapists

Service Description

4 week class with CE credit held in person at Calcopa massage school in Huntington Beach Ca. Learn how chronic pain is different from pain from injury or over use. Explore the emotional basis for chronic pain and how massage techniques can help people process this pain and find relief. This approach teaches how to use techniques like somatic tracking, energy work, Reiki, progressive relaxation and Lymphatic Drainage to help clients reconnect with their emotional processing. This approach talks about how we as therapists can educate clients to seek mental health therapy and trauma processing support that can help reduce pain. We work on how to create a safe place for clients to process emotions during treatment. How clients can find relief and techniques to manage pain when surgery, physical therapy, medication and other traditional approaches aren’t helping clients get relief from their pain. We as massage therapists are a lot of people’s first stop in treating their pain. This class will help identify clients who may need a different and more holistic approach to find relief. I have personal experience in pain relief using these methods and feel that it is so important to bring this information to the massage community. Level one teaches basic theory of emotional processing of pain. It explores the teachings on somatic tracking and the biopsychosocial approach to pain. We then will introduce gentle touch massage approaches such as energy work, Reiki, and Lymphatic Drainage that can be used to help people release and process emotion. Level two will continue to utilize the theories that we have learned in more practical approaches. We will then introduce Cranial Sacral Therapy, fascia, myofascial release, cupping, stones, stretches and therapeutic deep tissue as pain management techniques.
